Is anyone else as excited as I am for the Black Widow movie to come out this week? It’s been over two years since the last Marvel movie, Spiderman Far from Home, came out and I am incredibly excited to finally return to the theaters to see this blockbuster.

In order to prepare (and to stave off late-stage lockdown boredom) I have recently rewatched all of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) movies. There are 23 in total (if you include the 2008 Incredible Hulk movie which not all fans do). The library was a great help in this endeavor as they have 22 out of the 23 movies. I guess we overlooked Thor: The Dark World somehow, but I’ll be adding it to our next to-be-ordered list.

In celebration of Black Widow finally being released, and of the great MCU TV shows that have premiered recently on Disney+, the library is doing a display of all of our Marvel films as well as some of the best comics we have for these now-iconic characters. The display will also include some comics that are rumored to be inspiring the upcoming films, in case you’d like to get a sneak peek at what the studio might be planning for the future.

While doing my research to create this display I’ve discovered some comics that I’m really looking forward to reading myself. I’ve been loving the Loki TV show and am really excited to read Loki: The God Who Fell to Earth (GN FIC Lok). It takes place shortly after Loki has been reborn from a grisly death. Loki flees his responsibilities on Asgard and seeks out Tony Stark. However, Iron man is not happy to see the trickster god and now Loki has to outsmart the cleverest man on Earth if he doesn’t want to die (again).

I also discovered a comic run called Avengers Standoff: Assault on Pleasant Hill (GN FIC Ave). It was written to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Captain America. It includes the three most iconic versions of Captain America, Steve Rogers, Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson, as well as the rest of the Avengers, some you will recognize from the MCU and others who will be new to movie fans. It looks like a really fun and colorful book.

If you’re looking for a marvel comic for a slightly younger reader I suggest the Young Adult comic Invincible Iron Man: Ironheart, Volume 1: Riri Williams (YA FIC Ben). It tells the story of teen Riri Williams who takes up the mantle of Iron Man after Tony Stark. Riri is a self-made hero of tomorrow. Her technology just might change the world forever, but only if she survives that long. There are a lot of problems that come with stepping into Iron Man’s jet boots. Problems like her first big villain, and the long list of criminals looking to destroy Tony Stark’s legacy. Plus all the super-teams out to recruit her! A TV Show about Riri Williams is currently in the works at Marvel Studios and will supposedly start filming next spring.

If you’re interested in reading any of the Marvel comics or watching the MCU movies, consider checking out our display on the second floor of the library any time in the month of July.
