crinoid Join us for a special event! We have a Nature Hike with Crinoid Gathering coming up on Sept. 24th. We will meet at 10 am at the Rock River Ridge trailhead west of town, straight out of Wabash (2722 W Rock River Ridge Rd). We will begin with a small talk on trail etiquette, as well as cover the terrain we will be walking. Our trail will cover some rough and uneven terrain. For those who do not wish to be as adventurous, you can observe from the bridge that crosses Sugar Creek before we descend the trail to the rock beds.

Once reaching the rock beds, our naturalist will give a short program on the geology of Indiana, pass around some fossil samples, and discuss how crinoids were discovered in Crawfordsville. We will spend approximately one hour on our hike and discussion. Afterward, participants are free to continue their searches, or if you are ready to return, you can hike back with our naturalist to the parking lot.

It is highly recommended that sturdy footwear be worn on this hike. No reservations are necessary to attend–just join us out on the trail! Hope to see you there!

This program is part of our World of Wonders series, funded by an Indiana Humanities grant and in collaboration with Carnegie Museum of Montgomery County. Please call 362-2242 ext. 117 with any questions about this event.
